Quality shooting and fishing in the Galloway Hills
The Estate

A family estate comprising some 3,500 acres of mixed high hill and glen, undulating lowland, moor, woodland, and a large loch in its centre: totally private, but easily accessible. It has a long-established shoot, which is constantly being developed to make the best use of the estate's dramatic landscape and its breathtaking views.

One of the prime features of shooting on this estate and fishing on the loch is its open high country, its feeling of remoteness, and the abundance of its wildlife. We welcome those who respect and share our passion for conserving this unique wild place and its natural population, in harmony with efficient and humane shooting and fishing.

SHOOTING
What we relish is the true enjoyment of a day - a relaxed, non-commercial atmosphere, well-organised, and with unforgettable sport: plenty of birds, several exceptionally high pheasant drives, partridge driven high off the hills and down the gullies like grouse, plus duck, goose, snipe and woodcock.   On full driven days we have ample refreshments, with sumptuous lunches in the Victorian shooting lodge.  For smaller days we can organise a light lunch in the steading, or in the nearby pub.

For 2009-10 we have given the estate a thorough make-over: we have greatly expanded and up-graded the shooting and the facilities, thanks to the expertise and sheer energy of our new head keeper, Mark Owen, with the excellent tactical support of his fiancee, Andrea.  So far we have added new pens, re-sited others, created many more drives, thrown rides through woods, improved access, cleared the Steading, and bought new transport.  In addition, we have revised the organisation of the whole shooting day.

We therefore present a wide variety of shooting days, with flexible combinations of sizes and types of bag. We offer:

  • full driven days, of 100 up to 200 birds, starting with partridge in September, and proceeding to pheasant, partridge, or a mixture of birds through to January;

  • small driven or semi-driven days, of 75 mixed birds, including duck, with a handful of beaters;

  • walked up days, of 50 mixed birds;
  • flighting evenings, of wild duck and occasional goose in wild places.

Our most popular booking is a two-day spread - one day's semi-driven plus one day's full driven sport - in whatever order, with optional evening flighting in addition.  This is usually on a Friday and Saturday, but can also be arranged for week-days.

We always have a core of regular guests, whom of course we prioritise if possible, so it is advisable to book early to bag available days.

We have included a Booking Form in this Web-site for you to enquire and / or book shooting or fishing.

We also arrange, where possible, accommodation near the estate: for example at the acclaimed Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright.  There are also some very comfortable B & B's nearby, including Mrs. McMorran's on the estate.

We also provide FLY FISHING FOR WILD BROWN TROUT on the beautiful and tranquil 70-acre loch, with lots of fishy little bays and points.

We have four rowing boats for fishing at £25 per boat per day.   There is no catch limit.
